St Volodymyr Ukrainian Catholic Church in Santa Clara, CA
Our St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Catholic Church welcomed Father Paul Soukup, S.J., and students from Santa Clara University for a visit dedicated to learning about the history, faith, and traditions of the Ukrainian Catholic Church.
Father Roman Bobesiuk introduced the guests to the history of the parish, founded as a mission in 1963 and elevated to parish status in 2025.
During the visit, the students learned about the Byzantine tradition, the meaning of the iconostasis and its icons, and the spiritual significance of the Divine Liturgy. Father Roman also spoke about Saint Volodymyr the Great and the Christianization of Kyivan Rus’ in 988, an event that profoundly shaped Ukraine’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
The meeting offered an opportunity to discover the richness of the Ukrainian tradition and foster a deeper understanding of the diversity within the Catholic Church.
St. Volodymyr Parish thanks Father Paul and the students for their visit and interest in our faith and heritage.
