Martyrs Menodora, Metrodora, and Nymphodora
The Synaxarion (Lives of the Saints):
The Holy Virgins Menodora, Metrodora, and Nymphodora (305–311) were three sisters from Bithynia in Asia Minor. Desiring to preserve their virginity and dedicate their lives to God, they withdrew to the wilderness, where they lived in prayer and fasting.
Their holiness became known through miraculous healings that occurred through their prayers. The governor Frontonus ordered the sisters to be arrested and brought before him. He tried to persuade them to renounce Christ, promising honors and earthly rewards. The sisters firmly refused, declaring that they were ready to die for their Heavenly Bridegroom and receive eternal life.
Saint Menodora, the eldest, was tortured and beaten for her faith. She courageously endured the suffering and entrusted her soul to Christ. Four days later, Saints Metrodora and Nymphodora were brought before the governor. Seeing their sister’s battered body, they mourned but remained steadfast in their faith.
Saint Metrodora was tortured and died calling upon the name of Jesus Christ. Saint Nymphodora likewise refused to worship the pagan gods and was martyred for her faith.
The bodies of the three holy sisters were to be burned, but a heavy rain extinguished the fire. Christians later gathered their bodies and reverently buried them at the Warm Springs of Pythias in Bithynia.
The Holy Martyrs Menodora, Metrodora, and Nymphodora, pray to God for us!
