On Sunday, November 09, after the Divine Liturgy, our parish community celebrated a joyful event — the blessing of a new tetrapod, beautifully crafted and donated to our church by Mr. Michael Bolzovski. We sincerely thank him for this generous gift of love, which has enriched the beauty of our church and helps us enter more deeply into the prayerful life of our parish.
The word tetrapod comes from the Greek tetrapous, meaning “four-legged.” It refers to a small table that stands in the center of the church. During services, an icon of the feast or the church’s patron saint is placed on it so that the faithful can venerate and pray before it. Throughout the liturgical year, the icon on the tetrapod is changed according to the feasts celebrated by the Church.
Next to the icon there is always a cross, reminding us of Christ’s sacrifice, and lit candles, symbolizing prayer, faith, and the presence of God’s light among us. The tetrapod is a special place where each person can meet God in prayer — offering gratitude, petitions, and love from the heart.
