Discover the Heritage of Faith at St. Volodymyr Parish
Dear Friend,
We warmly invite you to journey through time and discover the precious spiritual heritage of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church here in Silicon Valley.
Our Enduring Legacy
Our faith, rooted in Jesus Christ, was officially embraced by our people through the Baptism of Saint Volodymyr the Great, the equal-to-the-apostles prince. Since that time, this faith has been passed down through generations, enduring the storms of history. Even in the darkest times, it has been the enduring link that unites our people with God and eternity.
More than 60 years ago, a new chapter of this enduring faith began right here. Our ancestors, arriving as displaced persons and refugees escaping persecution, sought safety in Silicon Valley. They faced new challenges—a different language, new customs, and the fear of being strangers—yet they never lost the most important thing: their faith in God.
They quickly adapted and began to build a thriving “Ukraine” in their new home, one founded on the Gospel and the deep-seated belief, “Without God—not even to the doorstep.”
A New Chapter in Santa Clara
On July 28, 1963, the Feast of Saint Volodymyr, Father Dr. Andriy Mykyta, appointed by Archbishop Kostyantyn Bohachevsky, officially registered the St. Volodymyr’s Mission in Santa Clara. From that day, the fire of Christ’s faith has burned without interruption.
Today, that mission has blossomed into the full St. Volodymyr Parish. We are building a vibrant, living church, a community made up of the hearts of our parishioners. While we are actively working toward our own church building, our current space is transformed into a sacred place to meet Christ. Soon, we plan to take another step in deepening our worship experience with the installation and blessing of an iconostasis.
Join Our Community
We warmly invite you to join our spiritual family! Your prayer and mutual support are especially vital now as we stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, giving us strength and hope.
We are a unique community:
- We are part of the worldwide Catholic Church, fully recognizing unity with the Pope.
- We keep the Eastern spiritual tradition and our unique rite (Byzantine Rite). This means our prayers and liturgy come alive in Ukrainian and English, we venerate icons, and follow the teachings of the Church Fathers.
Divine Liturgy (Mass) is celebrated every Sunday at 10:00 AM at: 445 Washington St, Santa Clara, CA 95050
Most of the service is in Ukrainian, but the Gospel, the Epistle, the homily, and some prayers are in English. Following the Liturgy, we always have time for fellowship, conversation, and community.
Come and pray with us, build a spiritual family, and grow in God’s love. Come and see!
