“The memory of the righteous will live forever” (Sirach 44:14)
On our spiritual journey to Christmas, today we pause to remember those who have passed away. In our tradition, every Saturday is dedicated to praying for the dead – for family, friends, spiritual mentors, and all those we have loved. Through prayer, we stay connected with them in Christ, asking God for mercy and eternal rest for their souls.
Task for today:
1. During your journey today, pray for your deceased family members and friends.
2. Make a list of the names of the deceased you would like the parish to pray for during a Divine Liturgy with a panakhyda (memorial service).
3. Bring this list to the church or send it to the priest so their names can be remembered in the community prayer.
May this pause on our journey to Christmas be a time of memory, gratitude, and hope. Through prayer for the dead, we learn love, thankfulness, and hope for the reunion in God’s Kingdom, continuing our spiritual journey with Christ.
