Свв. мчч. Трофима, Савватія й Доримедонта / Martyrs Trophimus, Sabbatius, and Dorymedon of Synnada
The Synaxarion (Lives of the Saints):
The Holy Martyrs Trophimus, Sabbatius, and Dorymedon suffered for Christ during the reign of the Roman Emperor Probus (276–282).
During a pagan festival in Antioch, Christians Trophimus and Sabbatius saw the immoral worship and pagan sacrifices. They prayed that God would lead the people to salvation. When the pagans noticed that they did not worship the idols, they arrested them and brought them before the governor.
The Saints firmly confessed their faith in Christ and refused to renounce Him. Saint Sabbatius died under fierce torture, while Saint Trophimus was sent to Synnada in Phrygia for further punishment.
For three days, Saint Trophimus was forced to walk in iron sandals with sharp nails while being driven forward by soldiers. The governor subjected him to many tortures, but the Saint remained faithful, repeating the words of Scripture: “Many afflictions has the righteous one, but from them all will the Lord deliver him” (Ps 33/34:20).
The senator Dorymedon, who was secretly a Christian, visited Trophimus in prison and cared for his wounds. When he openly confessed that he was a Christian and refused to take part in a pagan festival, he was arrested.
Saints Trophimus and Dorymedon were thrown to wild beasts, but the animals did not harm them. Finally, both martyrs were beheaded with the sword, receiving the crown of glory from Christ.
