On February 10, our parish community had the great joy of welcoming a special guest—Fr. Vasyl Pasichnyk-Rak, the Syncellus for Chaplaincy Ministry of the Ivano-Frankivsk Archeparchy. At the invitation of Fr. Roman Bobesiuk, he visited our community, led a prayer for Ukraine, and shared his testimony about his vocation.
A Chaplain – A Priest Among Soldiers
During the meeting, Fr. Vasyl emphasized the important role of chaplains in the life of the Ukrainian military. He explained that a military chaplain is not just a priest serving among soldiers, but a true spiritual mentor who accompanies them in the most challenging moments of their lives.
Anointing of the Sick – A Holy Mystery of Life, Not Death
One of the key topics Fr. Vasyl discussed was the meaning of the Holy Mystery of Anointing of the Sick. He stressed that it is often mistakenly perceived as “last rites,” whereas in reality, it is a sacrament that grants healing to the soul and body, strengthening a person in the struggle against illness and trials.
Discussion and Gratitude
After the official meeting, parishioners had the opportunity to personally speak with Fr. Vasyl, share their thoughts, ask questions, and receive spiritual guidance.
At the conclusion of the gathering, Fr. Roman Bobesiuk expressed gratitude to Fr. Vasyl for his devoted ministry, calling him a “lamp in God’s hands” and wishing that the light of faith, hope, and love would continue to shine where it is most needed.
This meeting was an opportunity for all present to gain a deeper understanding of military chaplaincy and the importance of spiritual support for those defending our country. A priest’s words can warm the heart, give strength, and inspire courage—and this is precisely the mission that chaplains fulfill on the front lines.
Let us pray for our military chaplains, who bring God’s word to the most dangerous places, support our soldiers, and remind them that God is always near!
